Raging Flood Waters Exhibit
Do you think it's been wet and rainy this summer? In June of 1937, Billings experienced a devastating flood. After days of downpours, hail and gale force winds, the ditch banks burst during the dark of night and the waters from the Yellowstone River poured into Billings. A photographic exhibit depicting the flood and its aftermath is on loan to the Library from the Western Heritage Center. Come see this free exhibit in the Montana Room on the 2nd floor of the Library and learn about "Billings' Gloomiest Night."
Library Site Survey Released
At the August 18th meeting of the Downtown Library Facility Meeting, consultants Jan Feye-Stukas and Dr. John Bielinski reported the results of a survey of community preferences for criteria to use in evaluating potential locations for a downtown library facility. Among the survey’s findings are that two-thirds of community residents are library users, more than half of community residents find the current location convenient or very convenient, about 60% prefer that the Library stay at its current location or nearby in the Central Core of downtown, about quadruple the next most popular location area, which was West Downtown. The Committee will hold a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, on the 4th floor of the Library. The final meeting of the Committee, at which one or more recommended locations will be identified, is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, at noon, also on the 4th floor of the Library.
